Ember.Exam Training

Academic integrity.

What Ember is, what it is not, and why it belongs on a school network.

Ember is a study tool. Students practice on original questions we write ourselves, get the reasoning behind every answer, and come back the next day. That is the whole product. It is not an answer service, a homework solver, or anything a student could use during a real exam.

What Ember is

  • Original SAT and ACT style practice questions, written by us
  • A worked explanation on every question, so students learn the method
  • Progress tracking that points a student at the skills costing them points
  • Free study guides on test format, scoring, and strategy
  • Practice done days or weeks before test day, at home

What Ember is not

  • Not a source of real, retired, or leaked exam questions
  • Not an answer key for any published test or workbook
  • Not a homework or graded coursework solver
  • Not usable during a proctored exam, which bans all outside devices
  • Not an essay writer or an assignment generator

Every question is written by us

Ember's question bank contains thousands of items, and every one of them was authored for Ember. We model the format, difficulty, and reasoning style of the real exams, because that is what makes practice useful, but the passages, prompts, and answer choices are our own work. We do not copy, scrape, or reproduce College Board or ACT test content, and we do not distribute answer keys for any published material.

On trademarks: SAT is a trademark registered by the College Board and ACT is a registered trademark of ACT, Inc. Neither organization is affiliated with, and neither endorses, Ember. We name the exams to describe what we prepare students for, which is nominative use, and we make no claim of partnership.

The design actively discourages shortcutting

A student who wants an answer without the work gets very little out of Ember. Questions are practice items with no real-world grade attached, so there is nothing to gain by skipping to the answer. The explanation, not the letter, is the product. Progress is measured in daily practice, streaks, and improvement on the skills a student keeps missing, all of which require doing the work.

Why Ember cannot be used to cheat on an exam

The SAT and the ACT are administered under proctored conditions with all personal devices prohibited. A browser-based study app is unusable in that room. Ember also holds none of the material a student would need to cheat, because we do not have real test content. There is nothing here that helps on test day beyond having practiced beforehand.

For network administrators and content filters

Ember is a legitimate educational technology product operated by a US-based business. It is used by students at home and by families preparing for college entrance exams. It belongs in an Education or Reference category, not in Plagiarism, Cheating, or Academic Dishonesty.

If Ember is blocked on your network and you believe it should not be, write to us and we will supply whatever documentation your filtering vendor needs.

Student privacy

Accounts are optional. A student can practice without one. When an account is created we store an email address, a display name, and practice progress. We do not sell data, we do not run ad networks, and we do not share student information with third parties beyond the payment processor required to complete a purchase.
